Uganda High Commission Kuala Lumpur Magazine First Edition 2020
WELCOME REMARKS BY HIGH COMMISSIONER DOROTHY SAMALI HYUHA UGANDA'S HIGH COMMISSIONER TO MALAYSIA AND ACCREDITED TO COUNTRIES IN ASEAN REGION.

It is with great pleasure that I present you with this Magazine that highlights activities that Uganda High Commission, Kuala Lumpur has handled during the last five years 2015-2020. This Magazine is the first of its kind that the Mission has prepared and we hope to build on this to provide our stakeholders and readers updates on progress that we register within ASEAN region. The Mission is also accredited to Rep. Indonesia, Rep. Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Kingdom of Thailand, Laos Peoples' Democratic Republic, the Union of Myanmar and the Kingdom Cambodia.

The Mission in Kuala Lumpur is mandated to promote and protect Uganda's national interest in ASEAN. It was opened in Financial Year 2014/2015 with mandate of Promoting Commercial & Economic Diplomacy, Promoting Uganda's Public Diplomacy and Enhancing her Image, Strengthening Institutional Capacity, Providing Diplomatic, Protocol & Consular Services, Mobilizing the Diaspora for Development, Promoting Regional and International Peace & Security and Promoting International Law & Related Commitments & Obligations.

It is important to note that prior to opening of the Mission, a Consulate existed headed by Consul General Late Hj. Nohrlian and it provided consular services to Ugandans and also served as contact for business and related inquiries. The Government of Uganda then deployed First Secretary Late Samantha Mbabazi Sherurah in preparation for official opening and subsequently deployed Ambassador Stephen Mubiru as first Ugandan Envoy to be posted to Malaysia and also accredited to countries in the ASEAN region. He served a two-year term 2015-17 before being reassigned to Ankara.

I also wish to mention that the activities that the Mission has covered relate to its mandate as stipulated in its Strategic Plan 2016/17-2019/20 and are also aligned to the National Development Plan II, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Strategic Plan II and National Resistance Movement Manifesto commitments.

I therefore take this opportunity to welcome you to this first edition of our Magazine and hope you will find it a useful document that reflects our engagements in ASEAN.
