UGANDA HIGH COMMISSION KUALA LUMPUR CELEBRATES 62ND INDEPENDENCE DAY

Kuala Lumpur, 07th November 2024 – The High Commission of the Republic of Uganda in Kuala Lumpur proudly celebrated Uganda's 62nd Independence Day at the prestigious Intercontinental Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. This momentous occasion was officiated by Hon. Henry Oryem Okello, State Minister for Foreign Affairs (International Cooperation) of the Republic of Uganda, alongside the Deputy Minister of Digital Malaysia, who honored the event as the chief guest.

The Independence Day celebrations were attended by a distinguished gathering of Malaysian government officials, diplomats, and members of both the Ugandan and Malaysian business communities, highlighting the robust and growing ties between Uganda and Malaysia. Hon. Henry Oryem Okello extended Uganda's warm greetings to all attendees, emphasizing Uganda's dedication to strengthening its partnerships with Malaysia and promoting mutual prosperity through increased cooperation in trade, investment, and technological advancement.

YB Datuk Wilson Ugak Anak Kumbong, the Deputy Minister of Digital Malaysia, representing the Malaysian Government, expressed heartfelt congratulations to the people of Uganda on this landmark occasion and reiterated Malaysia’s commitment to supporting Uganda’s development through technology transfer and digital transformation, further reinforcing the strong bilateral relations between the two nations.

The celebration included a display of Ugandan culture, with traditional music, dance, and culinary delights showcasing the rich heritage and diversity of Uganda. The event also featured networking sessions that fostered discussions on economic diplomacy, with particular focus on enhancing trade and investment opportunities between Uganda and Malaysia.

The High Commissioner, H.E. Dr. Betty Bigombe expressed her gratitude to all who attended and supported the event, reaffirming her commitment to strengthening Uganda-Malaysia relations in diverse areas, including trade, tourism, technology, agriculture, and education. The event concluded on a high note, with both nations looking forward to a future of shared growth and collaboration.
